Jazz @Lincoln Center
Creative Director / Writer
Wynton Marsalis was looking for an idea to match the purity of his artistic vision.
Bobby Martin was the new Executive Creative Director at the Center.
We both lived on Striver’s Row in Harlem, just steps away from the legendary jazz club “Lickety Split” and in the vicinity of places like The Lenox Lounge, Showman’s on 125th Street and Milton’s Playhouse.
We tapped into the energy born in the Motherland, transported to New Orleans and living on the streets of Harlem. We let the spirits moving through Art Kane’s, “A Great Day in Harlem” pass through us.
The phrase, “Jazz is Killing” captured the electrifying presence Wynton wanted the music to have on audiences for the new season at Lincoln Center.
Tickets sales rose 27% and the integrity and authenticity represents was matched.
