Akima is currently an Assistant Professor of Architecture at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. She has an MArch from the University of Michigan  with Distinction, and a BA in Architecture and Community Design from the University of San Francisco. Akima was born and raised in the Bay Area and is based in Chicago, IL.
